In the late 1930′s when the United States was beginning to recover from the Great Depression, a young Stanford graduate came to California’s Salinas Valley seeking employment. H.W. “Cy” Mann began his career trimming fruit and lettuce for 40 cents an hour. He loaded grain onto boxcars and through hard work and dedication, became foreman of a produce shed. It was 1939 when he opened a fresh carrot packing operation called, H.W. Mann. Shortly after, Mr. Mann found his claim to fame in the fresh vegetable industry – broccoli. It was in those early days Mr. Mann built a reputation for honesty and integrity-one that remains with the company today.
In 1976 Bill Ramsey and Don Nucci joined Mr. Mann as partners in the company. Today, the Nucci and Ramsey families lead the firm which now spans three generations. We are a majority woman owned and operated business, and one of the country’s leading suppliers of fresh vegetables-including, fresh-cut veggies, snack packs and party trays, and washed and trimmed lettuce products for foodservice. We are most known for our proprietary product Broccolini® and our award-winning Stringless Sugar Snap Peas!
Adherence to food safety, quality and customer service can be found in every product we grow, pack, cool and ship.

We value the world in which we work and live. We support our local schools and donate generously to a number of charitable organizations in our community and throughout our industry.
A Family of Family Farms
The fertile acres in regions we farm look like a patchwork quilt Mother Nature has sewn together. Each patch represents family farms where we cultivate our crops with care. Many of these farms have been passed down through generations, just like our company. While some still farm today, some families’ partner with us to help grow and market their crops, ensuring a home on a plate after harvest. Now that’s sustainable!
Farming and Agricultural Practices
Committed to providing year-round availability of key crops, our farming operations “follow the sun” and travel from the Salinas Valley to the San Joaquin Valley; Yuma, Arizona, Baja California, Mexico and Guatemala, to be “in season with the season.” We have strong relationships and commitments among the most progressive and knowledgeable growers in the industry, spanning generations with our company. Our team of advisors work closely with growers. From seed variety, irrigation, integrated pest management, training and fair treatment of laborers, harvesting and transportation- we’re there. We adhere to good agricultural practices every step of the supply chain.
Food Safety & Quality Committment
Our growers adhere to the California Leafy Greens Marketing agreement food safety standards and follow strict good agricultural practices that include third party audits. Training of our employees and prevention is our primary goal. We place emphasis on total quality management systems that are executed through safety, wellness and merit programs. Our safety goal is production without incident or injury. By raising the health and safety awareness of our employees, and creating a positive working environment, our team of dedicated personnel can focus on one thing— producing the most outstanding products in the fresh vegetable industry.
Sustainability
This land is your land. This land is our land. Our goal is to protect and conserve our natural resources and continue moving toward a solid position of environmental sustainability. We are as proud of our environmental record and programs, as we are of our quality products. We believe it is possible to preserve the family farm and provide a safe, abundant and affordable food supply, while protecting our communities and the environment.
