MANN PACKING EMPLOYEE RECEIVES AWARD FROM CPMA

SALINAS, CA – April 29th, 2015 – Ben Alviano, Canadian national manager for Mann Packing Co. Inc., received the Mary FitzGerald Award from the Canadian Produce Marketing Association at its annual convention and expo, April 15-17 in Montreal. The Mary FitzGerald Award is presented to a Canadian working for a produce company, under 40 years old, who has a huge heart, is innovative and demonstrates a passion for produce.

Les Mallard of Chiquita presented the award and said Alviano is an ambassador for produce in Canada for his company and the Canadian produce industry overall. He has an incredible work-life balance and a unique passion for produce with his innovative spirit and entrepreneurial vision, Mallard said.

Alviano’s responsibilities at Mann include servicing all retail grocery trade customers in Canada as well as all Mann’s Costco business in both the United States and Canada. He previously received the Produce Business 40 Under 40 Award. Alviano also serves as a mentor and manages Michael Sousa, who was recently hired as Mann’s Canadian district manager. Sousa participated in the 2015 CPMA Passion for Produce program.

Alviano lives in Toronto with his wife and two children. When he’s not working he volunteers with his children’s school activities as a hockey coach and supervising skating lessons; he also helped organize an annual fundraising program for the Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada.

He is active in all produce association events including of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, the Ontario Produce Marketing Association, the Quebec Produce Marketing Association, the British Columbia Produce Marketing Association, the Calgary Produce Marketing Association, the Produce Marketing Association, and United Fresh.
